Oude Kerk
Vierdag 1974, IIP/21
The current organ was delivered in 1974 by organ builder H.J. Vierdag of Enschede. The very first organ in the church had been installed in 1866 by Van Oeckelen of Haren. The casework of that original instrument served as the model for the present organ, resulting in a façade in the Northern Dutch style, reminiscent of the late 18th century.
A significant portion of the pipework originates from the organ of the former Wilhelminakerk in Rotterdam, built in 1900 by D.G. Steenkuyl of Amsterdam. As a result, only a few new stops needed to be added — crafted to match the existing materials. The front pipes, however, were newly made. Thus, Vierdag built an organ with a Baroque-style specification, using pipework from the Romantic organ builder Steenkuyl. One could aptly call the present-day organ in Veenendaal the Steenkuyl–Vierdag Organ.
The Steenkuyl organ from the former Wilhelminakerk in Rotterdam was a much-loved instrument. The well-known Dutch organist Feike Asma gave numerous concerts there and recorded several LPs on that organ.
